GREAT CONDITION FOR AN 80+ YEAR OLD CAN. Here is a Rare & Scarce Vintage Darling's Chesapeake Bay Salt Water Oyster Can. Darling & Son of Hampton, VA.

There is also a statement that reads "Planters & Packers of Oysters for over 50 years". These two statements dates this can in the 1930s. This one gallon can with lid is in Great Condition for a can manufactured & used in the 1930s, a green and black can with Great Graphics of an oyster boat plus Darling's Famous Shell Pile, no dents or rust but there are scratches & faded paint. There is some tarnish on the top outer rim.

The rarity of this vintage 80+ year old can makes it a must own can for the serious collector. Here is a bit of information about the J.

Darling & Son Oyster Packers. Darling struck it big with oysters. Darling & Son Oyster Packers in the early 1880s, he became one of the leaders of the seafood industry that restored Civil War-ravaged Hampton.

The city's waterfront turned into a place that teemed with packing plants and piles of oyster shells, including J. Darling & Son's famous four-story-tall pile. The Darling plant typically employed about 260 workers in peak season.

Workers shucked oysters or manned a fleet of boats with names like the Kecoughtan, the Powhatan, the Winona and the Pamunkey. They also built special log canoes for harvesting oysters, according to an exhibit at the Hampton History Museum. Shells weren't wasted, but rather provided beds for new oysters or served in the paving of sidewalks or streets. Please review the many photos to determine condition.
