Vintage Shell Oil & Shell Petrol Can Duel Circa 1930 Very Rare Collectable
The oil can has some marks / blemishes and needs some old oil cleaning off that is the brown around the top and bottom of the can. There was a bit more but it came off easy with cold soapy water. On the petrol can you can see a bit of soap still near top edge. Note the brass cap is original with the 2 peaks not 4 from later cans. This also has the original pull loop on the oil can. Shell first had what looked like a clam shell as it started in 1900 with the shell shape we still see today coming in 1904 on a black background before losing that in 1909 when it became the standalone shell. These 3 early shells had been black and white until in 1930 it became a yellow shell without the name shell on it (As with the petrol can) but still having black about the edge of the yellow shell. This can came from this first yellow shell era that lasted like this until after world war 2 in 1948 when the name shell was first put on the shell and red edge came. This places this can between 1930 and 1948 and anyone claiming yellow shell oil/petrol items prior to this more so with red on it is incorrect. Please keep in mind it is going on for 90 year old so there are blemishes but nothing to note as such but please see the photos for condition.
